Rachel and Chris shared an enchanted barn wedding in Wisconsin!
Chris and I met and live in Milwaukee, and while we love it there, we knew we wanted to get out of the city for our wedding. When we found the Enchanted Barn, we fell in love immediately and knew we had to get married there. Most of our family and friends live in different parts of Wisconsin, but none of our guests had ever heard of the tiny town of Hillsdale, which is about 5 hours northwest of Milwaukee. So it turned into a destination wedding of sorts.
One of my favorite parts of wedding planning was going through my Grandpa’s old barn and seeing what we could find to use as part of our décor. We used barn boards as part of the centerpieces, an old chicken wire frame to display guest seating cards, and a pallet as a sign for the ice cream flavors. Besides the treasures from the barn, we also used my Grandma’s picnic basket as a card box, and I had a small hair piece that my Grandma and Great Grandma both wore on their wedding days.
Our wedding day turned out more amazing than we ever could have imagined. It was cloudy and surprisingly cool (for August) most of the day, and then the sun peeked out about 15 minutes before the ceremony, and it was beautiful for the rest of the day. Kids were running everywhere outside, adults had old fashioned and lawn games, everyone had a great time. Our florist and friend, Bobby from Marius Bell, drove our flowers all the way from Milwaukee (still not sure how he did it) and they turned out gorgeous. The staff at the barn was outstanding. The whole day was so smooth and well run, we really felt like we could enjoy every minute with our family and friends. – the lovely bride, Rachel
