A fun Q + A by Aubrey of Love Tree Studios with the lovely bride Tara:
How did you and Josh meet?
Josh and and I met while serving tables at Macaroni Grill in Nashville, TN. We were friends before we started dating.
How and when did Josh propose?
He proposed on September 28, 2012. It was a Friday night much like any other, we planned to go on a date so I didn’t think anything of it when we started out at cute bistro for wine and appetizers. After the first course we went to a posh, steakhouse that looked out over the city skyline. When we arrived home Josh started lighting candles and popped a bottle of champagne, you would think that I would’ve known that he was up to something, but he is very romantic so I thought, ” wow, this is a great date night.” He had me sit down on the couch and placed a laptop in front of me. I watched as a video played displaying pictures of our relationship and when the last picture flashed on the page I knew this was no ordinary date night. It was a picture of the engagement ring I fell in love with a year ago! I turned from the computer screen to find Josh on his knee holding a ring box and then he said the four words every girl longs to hear from the man of her dreams ” will you marry me? ” of course I said yes!
How long were you dating before he proposed?
We dated for five years. Then engaged before married? A year and a half.
How did you choose your venue?
I chose the Firestone Baar’s Chapel for its beautiful and unique architecture and for the fact that it is shaped like a theater – there isn’t a bad seat in the house. I chose the Tiger Hotel for its historical elegance and I love ballrooms!
What was your inspiration for the wedding?
As soon as I saw the Grande Ballroom of the Tiger Hotel it reminded me of the old musicals I grew up watching that are filled with elegance and romance. I wanted a simple, elegant, romantic wedding.
How did you decide on your colors, flowers, overall theme?
I chose purple because it is my favorite color. I selected lavender for the bridesmaids dresses because it a soft, romantic shade of purple and it completed the lavender roses that I knew I wanted in my bouquet. I used dark, plum purple linens at the reception to bring a sense of depth to the lighter shades of purple. The flowers were a challenge because of my time spent working in my aunts flower shop I LOVE flowers and it is hard to chose a favorite type that is in season. I focused mainly on my bouquet as it was the most important part to me. I knew I wanted to have lavender roses, peonies and orchids, because of their beauty of elegance they are some of my favorite flowers. I left the rest of the creative designing up to my aunt and she blew me away. I never in my wildest dreams pictured a more beautiful bouquet. What made it even more special was the peonies in my bouquet were hand picked by my mom and came from her garden and my grandmother’s garden. It meant so much to me to have a piece of them with me on my special day.
When all was said and done, what were a few of your favorite details?
Some of my favorite details were the peonies from my mom and grandmothers garden in my bouquet and my purse which was made from my mothers wedding dress
What memory stands out to you the most about your day?
I have so many favorite moments from the day its hard to pick one but here are a few of them: I was so excited to put on my dress. I love my dress and the moment I stepped in it I finally felt like a bride. I felt glamorous and elegant and I couldn’t help but stare at myself in the mirror. The first look was another one of my favorite moments, I had been so nervous all day which was unlike me, all I wanted to do was see Josh and when I finally did I was so excited to see him looking so handsome in his tux and I couldn’t wait to marry him. I absolutely loved exchanging our own vows at the ceremony, it meant so much to me to hear Josh’s vows and to be able to say my own. I felt like the ceremony was the perfect combination of humor and romance which is who we are. I also loved being able to walk down the aisle with both my dad and step-dad at different times ensuring that each father got his own special moment with me.
