“This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave.” – Elmer Davis
Happy Veterans Day! Today we wanted to honor and thank all men and women that serve our country, this wedding is extra special to us because it features an active Airman!
From the Bride about the day:
“Robert and I became engaged on July 5, 2013. He surprised me by coming to visit me and my family in Minnesota over the4th of July. On the 5th we went to our favorite sushi restaurant for our date night. Afterwards we went for a walk around our favorite lake. Robert asked a woman to take our picture and before I knew it he was on one knee, asking me to marry him!
We decided to get married exactly one year later on Lake Superior at Cove Point Lodge– which is my family’s favorite vacation spot. Because of the date, and the fact that Robert is in the Air Force, we decided to go with an Americana theme.
My mom was the great architect of the event. She made all of the decorations, pinwheels for the centerpieces and boutonnieres and even the burlap dahlia bouquets! My mom and I sent many photo texts back and forth from my college to home over the year of planning– to make things just right for our big patriotic/ romantic day.
He wore his Air Force uniform, I my white dress, the girls wore red vintage inspired tea length dresses from Trashy Diva. The guys were in a summer grey– very patriotic. We had an intimate wedding of about 60 guests. We wanted to celebrate with our closest family and friends.
Despite the fact that it was 50 degrees in July (cold even by Minnesota North Shore standards) our ceremony was perfect. It was even more special because our officiant was a dear family friend.
After the ceremony, our guests were invited to drink lemonade, enjoy popcorn and red, white, and blue candies, and play lawn games while we took our photos.
Our reception was lovely. My family brought the cobalt blue jars filled with babies breath that lined the aisle outside to our reception room to bring color to the windowsills that overlooked the big lake. We had toasts, ate a lovely dinner and fed each other apple and chocolate pie (instead of cake) and danced the night away with our family and friends.
I can’t really describe my emotions from that day except to say that I was overjoyed to be celebrating my marriage to the man of my dreams and best friend! I wouldn’t change anything about my wedding day for the world.”
Congratulations to Madison and Robert! And thanks to Robert and all veterans for serving our country!
